MEXICO CITY (BNO NEWS) -- Mexican carriers Aeromexico and Volaris will add flight frequencies and at least one new route to the U.S. after the U.S. Department of Transportation's FAA restored Mexico's Category 1 safety classification.

Aeromexico said it will begin operating starting December 6 from Mexico City a fourth daily flight to New York's JFK, a fourth daily flight to Miami, a third daily flight to Chicago, a fifth daily flight to Los Angeles and a second daily flight to Las Vegas.

From January 11, 2010 the SkyTeam member will add two weekly frequencies from Mexico City to San Antonio, Texas.

Aeromexico also said it will resume a code-share agreement with Delta Air Lines on December 11.

Meanwhile, Volaris said it will start flights between Guadalajara and Chicago, Illinois starting December 13, 2010. The inaugural flight from Chicago Midway International Airport will depart at 15:35 p.m. CDT and will arrive at Guadalajara International Airport at 20:05 p.m. CDT.

The FAA on Wednesday announced that Mexico complies with international safety standards. It said Mexico has made "significant progress," and that FAA will continue to offer technical assistance.
