TAT to use CentralWorld as New Year countdown venue

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) will use CentralWorld shopping complex in Bangkok's Ratchaprasong intersection as the venue for the upcoming New Year Countdown event as in previous years, along with other sites upcountry.

TAT Board Chairman Vichai Srikwan and TAT Governor Surapol Svetasreni said after their meeting that TAT would collaborate with private sector and choose CentralWorld as the event’s venue in Bangkok to welcome the year 2011. It will also organise a merit-making tour to nine temples in the capital. It is a Buddhist belief that making merit during an auspicious occasion will bring the merit-maker good fortune and good luck.

In other provinces, the Tourism Authority of Thailand will hold New Year’s countdown events in the northern province of Chiang Mai, the northeastern provinces of Nakhon Phanom and Ubon Ratchathani, and in the southern province of Phuket and Songkhla’s Hat Yai district. Visitors from Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia are the main target traveller groups to enter Hat Yai.

good idea to use it ,nice payback to what happen in the year earlier

"It is a Buddhist belief that making merit during an auspicious occasion will bring the merit-maker good fortune and good luck".

This sounds very Thai, but it doesn't sound very Buddhist to me...

"Visitors from Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia are the main target traveller groups to enter Hat Yai."

So this is the first stage of the TAT plan announced recently, to reduce dependence upon foreign visitors.....Maybe he hasn't read his recent press releases.

Maybe the scaffolding around being rebuild ZEN should be given some colorful decorations for the occasion (anything but red). Maybe they can also be moved a wee bit to free space for celebraters.

Motto for TAT 'let's end 2010 with a bang' ?

Wasn't the area the same as all previous years?

I just went by there the other day. From what I've seen, Zen Dept. Store half is still under construction. Unless Harry Potter shows up or illusionist David Copperfield shows up to be a guest of honor, not much to see.

This is going to be interesting. Since the TAT doesn't have any other decent sites it seems to be the best choice, but I wonder how much does the Governor get for Christmas this year from the Central family?

Will every poster here that wrote sobbing posts here on how bad the capitalist commercial center is be picketing with signs outside the location upon the New Year celebrations?

What colour is Santa wearing this year? He might get arrested lol

It's ok if you wear the white trim,

and have a antlered animal other than a buffalo with you.
