Hi.!

I have had alot of paine the last 3-4 days and went to Sriburin hospital yesterday-got some bloodtest and x-ray, and was there today again to have a utrasound scanning.

They found out that I have a gallstone and recomend surgery-50-60.000 baht.

I have to chek my insurrance tomorrow-the papers are in the bank, and see how much they will pay.

Then we have our naughbo, who is doctor in the puplic hospital-and he say, that he will take care of me personaly, and there it will only cost around 20-30,000 baht.

Any advice.?

I have no experience with surgery at either Hospital.

Although I would suspect the Doctors at the Public Hospital are just as good as the private ones. They may even have more hands on experience as they are generally busier.

Even though I have the social welfare insurance with Sriburin, I sometimes go to the goverment hospital.

The doctors are qualified, and a lot of their equipment is fairly up to date.

You can also upgrade to VIP class in the govement hospital and it works out considerable less than Sriburin or Overbrook hospital.

On at least 3 occasions I have had issues with Sriburin padding my bill .

She does not know him but has heard of him. Older doctor? All these type Doctors would come from CR hospital anyway. The personal service may be a little better at Sriburin since CR so busy but sees no big problem with CR with a VIP room. Key is a good Doctor and let him do hospital arrangements.:jap:

I agree. My father has just had planned surgery (minor, but required a general anaesthetic) at the general hospital. He is registered with Overbrook, goes there first and is then seen at either Overbrook or general hospital depending on which specialist he needs to see, and when they are available. His bill for 3 days/2nights in a VIP room, surgery, care and medicines was just over 5000 baht.

Hi.!

Yes, we have a friend, who's son just came home from Sriburin-and they paid 2.400 each day for the room alone-and they want around 55.000 baht for the surgery-thats including everything.

I had one night overstay, at Overbrook-a bloodtest,a x-ray,and a room+very litle medicine.=10.200 baht.

Its not so much about the price !! What you should be concerned about is the medical skill of the surgeon, the pre and post op care and 100% the cleanliness of the hospital.

My dealings personally have only been with Overbrook and I cant say im overly impressed with the medical education levels of those who dealt with me but the room I had was clean and the service was more like a hotel than a hospital. The Chiang Rai General hospital has been fairly good for some of my friends and they survived , however infections are common as the place isnt that clean and it was pocket friendly to my friends.

Sriburin is the big place , never used it as its further away from where I live and I dont know about their medical skills, however my friends do say its more expensive than all .

Having said all that I would check what your insurance company will pay for , then look up some top notch hospitals in BKK as that is what my friends do if they are able to get there . You maybe suprised about the price being cheaper in BKK and having 1st class everything, alternatively could you return home and have the op done ?

Good luck , I wish you well .

A Thai doctor once told me that finding the right anesthetist is more important than finding a good surgeon.

You may also want to check at CM Ram.

Hi.!

Talk whit the doctor today-surgery in Sriburin d.9-the Thai puplic, diddent have eny time before 1-2 month.

I have a gallstone at 13 mm-they will make 3-4 holes, and remove it from there.

Then the doctor I talk whit today, said that the pain killer, they gave me at Sriburin,is totaly wrong-so got some new ones, and they take the paine away.

@Brian - Sounds like even better reasons to try Chiang Mai Ram.

@sunholidaysun1 - Gall stones form in the gall bladder. I think you are referring to kidney stones. Some study of human anatomy might lead one to conclude that peeing little rocks out of one's gall bladder would be nothing short of miraculous.

Hi!

I try to send a mail to bangkok hospital, and this is what I got back:

Regarding your inquiry, kindly be informed that the estimated price of Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy is approximately 160,000-180,000 Baht**, with 2 days hospitalization..

The above cost estim...ate does not include:

Any expenses not related to the procedure

Costs arising from complications, such as additional medical conditions that may require special treatment during or after the procedure

Any follow-up treatment costs

Take-home medication and medical supplies.

So thats what you call cheaper.???
