You can go from Bkk by overnight train (sleeper) or bus.

By road it's about 850 km to Surrathani then a ferry across to Koh Samui. Quite a pleasant drive, best to stop overnight somewhere along the way, so not much use if you are short of time.

You can fly from Bkk to Surrathani which is cheaper than flying with Bankok Air direct to Samui but you still have to get the ferry over to Samui.

Utapao airport is about 45 min by minibus from Pattaya and really quite pleasant - a short flight and your there. Don't forget that you have to pay an airport fee on leaving Samui of about 400 baht (cheeky gits!)

I think there is only one flight (?) a day from Utapao but it is more conveniennt and cheaper than going to Bkk which has tens of fligts every day. you can check Bambina's schedule anyway.
