Community Grieving Wife Suffers Breakdown After Husband Found Dead at Home in Nakhon Si Thammarat
Picture courtesy of Khaosod. A 73-year-old woman suffered a severe emotional breakdown and had to be calmed by authorities after discovering her husband dead inside their home in Tha Sala district, Nakhon Si Thammarat. The incident unfolded on the afternoon of 25 June and initially sparked concerns from neighbours who feared domestic violence was involved. Police Lieutenant Colonel Somchai Muaydee, Deputy Superintendent of Tha Sala Police Station, responded to a report at 4:30, along with investigative officers and rescue personnel from the Tai Tek Tung Foundation. The incident occurred in Moo 1, Tha Sala subdistrict, Nakhon Si Thammarat province. Upon arrival, authorities found an elderly woman, later identified as Mrs. Jamnean in a highly agitated state. She was seen pacing with a machete in hand, shouting incoherently and refusing to let anyone approach or enter the property. After a prolonged effort, officers were able to calm Mrs. Jamnean and convince her to surrender the weapon. She eventually allowed the team inside, where they discovered the lifeless body of her husband, Mr. Nian also 73, lying on the floor of the bathroom. No signs of physical assault or injuries were found on the body. According to local residents, Mr. Nian had been bedridden for some time and was being cared for by his wife. Earlier in the day, neighbours noticed Mrs. Jamnean behaving erratically with a machete and assumed she might have harmed her husband, prompting them to contact the police. Authorities believe that the woman suffered a mental breakdown after discovering her husband had passed away, possibly from a fall in the bathroom that caused him to lose consciousness and die. Mrs. Jamnean was speaking incoherently throughout the ordeal and was subsequently taken to Tha Sala Hospital for psychiatric evaluation and care. The deceased’s relatives confirmed they do not suspect foul play and believe Mr. Nian’s death was accidental. After an autopsy, his body was released to the family. Again and again it's the local economy that pays the price for nonsensical political border disputes. Most locals are just trying to survive and could care less about "saving face." -

Politics NACC Investigates Justice Minister and DSI Over Senate Scandal
Picture courtesy of Thai PBS World The National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) has launched an investigation into Justice Minister Tawee Sodsong and Department of Special Investigation (DSI) chief Pol Maj Yutthana Praedam. This probe follows allegations of misconduct relating to the Senate election collusion investigation. Senate Speaker Mongkol Surasajja prompted this action with a petition after receiving complaints from 10 senators. These lawmakers allege that DSI officials harassed them, without proper identification, at the home of a former senator in Amnart Charoen province. They claim officials coerced the senator to confess involvement in collusion and disabled the home's CCTV. The investigation into the alleged Senate election collusion is suspected by some to be a politically motivated strategy targeting the influence of the Bhumjaithai party. Observers suggest it's an attempt to diminish the power of the “Blue” faction, which holds sway in the Senate. Justice Minister Tawee, aligned with the Prachachart party and close to former PM Thaksin Shinawatra, supervises the DSI. His connection to these political figures has stirred debate over impartiality claims. The NACC’s decision highlights the intensity of political tensions surrounding the Senate elections and brings attention to the methods employed by those investigating alleged misconduct. These unfolding events spotlight Thailand’s ongoing struggle with political integrity and accountability. The next steps involve the NACC establishing a committee to delve deeper into the accusations. This move signals the seriousness with which the anti-corruption body views these allegations, which, if proven true, could have significant repercussions. As the probe advances, all eyes remain on the NACC and its findings. The outcome will inevitably impact not only the individuals involved but also the broader political landscape.
