BOGOTA, COLOMBIA (BNO NEWS) -- At least ten people on Tuesday were injured after an explosion took place in a building in Bogota, the capital city of Colombia, local media reported.

The blast took place in a southern neighborhood in Bogota and damaged a residential building located in 38 Sur street in the Patio Bonito area.

Authorities and rescue teams were rushed to the scene and at least 10 people were injured, including 7 children. Three minors were sent to the Simon Bolivar hospital while three others were treated at the Misericordia hospital.

In addition, three adults were also sent to the Simon Bolivar hospital. All wounded individuals sustained burns in the incident.

Preliminary reports indicate that the explosion was caused by an accumulation of gas. The steam emanating from two trash containers was allegedly what caused the blast.

Authorities are at the scene recovering evidence in order to determine the cause of the blast and if it was not intentional.
