MEXICO CITY (BNO NEWS) -- A federal police helicopter carrying 11 people crashed on Wednesday afternoon in Mexico's Veracruz state, killing three people and injuring another three, officials said.

Ricardo Najera, a spokesman with Mexico's Attorney General's Office in Mexico City said the helicopter was carrying six security officers, two inmates, an official from the country's organized crime investigation unit, and two pilots.

According to Najera, the Bell 412 helicopter was going to a prison in the town of Villa Aldama and crashed around 4:30 p.m. in bad weather conditions. Authorities did not provide the identities of the people on board.

On October 15, a contractor helicopter serving Mexico's state-owned oil company Petroleos Mexicanos crashed in the same state, killing all eight people on board.

On June 18, eleven soldiers were killed when a military Bell 412 helicopter crashed near Santiago Papasquiaro in Mexico's Durango state. The country's Ministry of Defense said the accident occurred during bad weather conditions in the area, killing a chief, four junior officers and six troops.
