Newly-appointed Minister of Humor

Purachai Piumsombun.

“Humor is an important part of both business and culture in Thailand,” said Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva at the inauguration ceremony, which took place at Government House this morning at the auspicious hour of 9:19AM. “It is long overdue that this government devote a ministerial position to this important sector of our economy and society.”

Senior monks were in attendance, as well as a representative of the Palace to provide Royal endorsement to the Constitutional amendment adding the Ministry, as well as the appointment of former Interior Minister Purachai Piumsombun as the first Minister of Humor.

Next week he announces the new Laugh Tax,

on a progressive scale depending on the loudness, duration,

and on which government initiative announcement the humor is aimed at.

Thaksin jokes will build positive credit against the tax cumulatively of course.

Humour trade? Is that where a newbie farang picks up an attractive ladyboy thinking he's found the love of his life?

Perfect!!! We all know this has happened more than a few times!!!

Yes, it has.

The sad flipside of that is that I have heard several events retold to me by lady boys in the trade of how their customers - for some in-explicit reason - has completely failed to realize what kind of bar they are in and when they got back to the hotel their disappointment took a violent turn.

That IS the sad part. There should be no excuse for violence when your own stupidity is to blame for the mistake.

A lot of people lack our sense of humour, and are unable to appreciate the irony of such a situation.

The only time I have felt intimidated in a pub in Thailand was in one of the ladyboy bars, where they could 'all be lads together' so to speak.

'Intimidated' is maybe the wrong word, since there was no intimidation... 'inhibited' is maybe a better word; ill at ease...

Anyway, sorry for the off-topic digression. I am glad that the Thai government has seen sense and set up this ministry; perhaps they will soon follow our example, and turn the entire government of the nation to these specialists.

BOIING!
