Four dead, eighteen missing after fishing boat sinks near Antarctica

SEOUL (BNO NEWS) -- At least four crew members were killed and eighteen others remain missing after a South Korean fishing boat sank in the waters off Antarctica on early Monday, officials said.

The 614-tonnes ship was near Antarctica when it began to sink at around 4.30 a.m. South Korean time, according to the country's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade. It said a total of 42 crew members were on board.

The Ministry said at least four bodies had been recovered, while eighteen others remain missing. The conditions of those who survived the accident was not immediately clear.

Of the forty-two crew members, eight are South Korean, eight are Chinese, eleven are Indonesian, eleven are Vietnamese, three are Filipinos, and one is Russian.

Rescue efforts are continuing.
