How much does a work visa cost per year? How much does a marriage visa cost per year? I've read that with a marriage visa, you have to leave the country every 3 months during the first year, but that in subsequent years you only have to report to the local immigration office. With a work visa, do you have to leave the country at all? Reason I ask this is because I can factor in the cost of having to do a border run into the total cost of a visa.

A Non Imm O Visa based on being married to a Thai will cost the same as a Non Imm B visa for employment. Border runs needed for both.

A 12 month extension based on Marriage to a Thai will cost the same as a 12 month extension based on work. Border runs not needed for both.

All visas and extensions of stay cost the same amount regardless of reason for issue.

There is no work or marriage visa. For work you require issue of a work permit and that requires a non immigrant visa entry for reasons other than retirement or education and is normally non immigrant B if work is the main reason for entry. With marriage you qualify for non immigrant O visa entry and work permit should be available on that.

One year extensions of stay for work or marriage cost 1,900 baht.

I was aware of the work permit requirement. Thanks for letting me know both visas cost the same. Since that's the case, which visa is less of a hassle to obtain?

That would depend on where you apply and the paperwork available to support your application. There is no one answer fits all situations.

To my knowledge right or wrong, marriage visa you need Bhat 400,000 in the bank, or combination of income and bank deposit, non O. or possible verification of income only, with letter from your Embassy, depending on nationality... US you just make a declaration. Canadian Embassy will accept copies of bank deposits proof of income in Canadian account for one month to give you letter for Immigration, $13,350 Canadian, on a good exchange day.

With work permit Non B and employer showing you earning a minimum of B50,000 a month, no bank deposit is needed. More experienced members may have some better input on this.

For Thai wife extension of stay the requirement is 400k in bank account 2 months or 40k per month income. There is no option for a combined amount. This is not the requirement for a visa.

For work extensions of stay an income by nationality or employment is required as well as company paperwork that qualifies for issue of extension of stay (not all do).

Hey Lopburi, allied to a previous thread of mine... can you confirm that annual extensions of stay based on marriage will be awarded both to holders of non-B visas or non-O visas.

The requirement is a non immigrant visa entry so the answer is yes, if you meet the other requirements. You can also change the reason for a current extension of stay to another.
