Missing Page In Passport

Featured Replies

I have to visit immigration to extend my tourist visa. My old full passport (which has the valid visa in it) has one page missing in the middle of the passport. (it got wet and tore out). I very recently got a new passport. Should I have any problems at immigration tranferring/extending? PS.The valid visa and stamp have not been affected.

It should not be a problem as passport is invalid already. They will just notate your current permitted to stay and old passport number and then you can extend your entry 30 days in the normal manner.

Here's what happened to our daughter in 2002 when she arrived in Bangkok with a missing page in her passport. She was detained for 8 hours. She was slated to be sent back to the US on the next EVA flight. Only through the grace of God and a retired Army general who was our neighbor was she allowed to enter the country. She was 'accused of having a mutilated passport'. Finally, she was allowed to obtain an emergency passport from the US embassy the next day and continued on her vacation. Her 8 hours in the airport were harrowing to say the least.

I realize your situation is different, but from my daughter's experience, immigration does not take kindly to 'mutilated' passports.

Good luck in your case.

It is an entirely different situation. Poster is not attempting to use a mutilated passport and has properly replaced it.

Note that in order to transfer a visa (the same may apply for permissions to stay) from the old invalid passport to a new one, you also need a letter from your embassy to teh Royal Thai Immigration. The embassy knows the wording and will probably even make you aware that you need the letter.

Not sure what you're saying. She wasn't "accused" of having a mutilated passport, she *had* a mutilated passport, which renders it invalid. Therefore, she was trying to enter the country with an invalid passport. I am sorry to hear that your neighbour, the retired Army general, could bend the law. I am sure that if this had happened upon entry in the US by a foreign national, no such corruptive measures would have been accepted by US immigration and the individual would have been sent back without any further discussion.

That said, the OP is in a different situation, as he correctly reported the missing page to the authorities and got a new passport, rather than trying his luck with law enforcement.

A visa is never transferred into another passport by Immigration and the letter is not a requirement set in stone (the UK never write such letters from posts to this forum).

If the visa is still valid, it will not be transferred? Important to know, thanks.

As for the letter, immi asked foe it last time I got a new passport, but that's a few years ago and things may have changed or itay be up to the officer. I will try to hold back the letter next time (next year or so) and see what happens. Will report back.

Immigration cannot transfer Visas issued by Consulates only extensions of stay and entry stamps issued by Immigration.
