I read in an old thread somebody mentioning that if you have a Thai spouse or Thai child that you can extend your 30-Day Visa Exempt entry by 60-days at the immigration office. Does anybody know if this is true and the costs or requirements? It also mentioned there was no limit to the number of times one could do this.

Would appreciate anybody who has any information on this including what type of extension this is called.

Also ... can you use this same type of extension for a tourist visa or a 15-day (land) entry visa exempt. The reason I ask is I am currently using Tourist Visas to stay in the country because I had not heard of this extension before and if true it sounds a heck of a lot easier than doing tourist visa runs.

Thanks for any knowledge you can share on this.

You are aware you qualify for a non immigrant O visa if married to a Thai? That allows a 90 day stay. They are also issued in one year multi entry version allowing unlimited stays of up to 90 days for a year but locally may require proof of 100k in a bank account to prove you can support the stay. You also have the options to extend yearly if you meet 400k in bank account 2 months or 40k per month income proof.

Thanks for the quick response and sorry about creating this in the wrong area.

I appreciate you confirming this option but are you sure about the "back to back" part? As I mentioned, I read in an old forum there was no rule against the number of times you can do this type of extension. However it was about a different topic and somebody just mentioned this option. I also did an internet search based on your reply (it appeared you pasted the requirements) and found this link which doesn't appear to mention anything about this under 2.24.

http://www.tillekean..._new_policy.pdf (actually very informative in terms of all types of extensions)

And lastly ... any clue if this can be done at the end of a Tourist Visa? The document, at least at a brief glance, appears to just address extensions but doesn't get too into type of stay (visa) being extended.

Thanks Again!

Thanks. Actually I wasn't aware of the multi entry version but from what i have read they require you to jump through a bunch of hoops to get a spouse visa. One problem is I often never know how long I am going to be here and am just looking for the simplest way to stay when I am here for the longer periods. I will check more into the multi entry version of this visa.

If you scroll down to the requirements section on the Tilleke and Gibbins translation it does give the requirements. 2.24.

As Lopburi3 said there are other options.

It gives the requirements but it doesn't, at least from what I see, mention anything about back-to-back restrictions. Or am I just missing it? I am assuming this is probably true but just trying to confirm.

Back to back means it will not be allowed on itself. You can have another entry and obtain a new 60 day extension of stay. The previous version limited use of 60 day extension to "one time" which was not defined. Currently they have dropped that restriction and will allow more - but only with an entry between them - and some are limited yearly usage to 4 times.

A multi entry non immigrant O visa is the best choice for frequent travel and in home country would likely only require marriage proof to obtain. And locally only marriage proof/copy of wife ID and home register is normally asked but they may want to see 100k in a bank account.
