I have a set of audio CDs which have apparently-superficial scratches. They do not play consistently, taking several attempts to get some going in a CD player.

Even then I can't always advance the tracks at will. eBay has a large range of cleaning kits, some even motorised, using various liquid solutions, papers and cloths to smooth the surface and prevent skipping. Any advice on the best type or method? Thanks.

use a good silicone auto polish, 1 drop on finger, rub in circular motion completely over complete disc 2 times for light scratches. Let dry, buff off with soft cotton cloth. If scratches are deep I use a light auto scratch remover the same way first then the auto polish. I have repaired dozens of discs this way.

1 drop on finger of TOOTHPASTE, YES TOOTHPASTE, rub in a slow gentle circular motion over the scratches. Remove when wet. buff off with soft cotton cloth. Oh don't forget to wet your finger. I owned a shop selling C.D's Best toothpaste is the old fashion white texture.

because the CD has the life span depends on the quality of the cd. the cheap one can be like 2 ys and the good one can up to 5 ys.

So we were conned......... :bah:

When CD's were first announced we were told they would last for ever. :bah: :bah:

I do not keep cd's or dvd's any longer.

All have been ripped to hard disk, with a backup copy.

Much more compact that way. :D
