What Kind Of Bird Is This And What To Feed It?

Featured Replies

Hello all,

This little bird fell out of a tree at my house and my gf caught it and put it in a large box.

Does anyone know what kind of bird it is and what to feed it?

We did put some water and bird seeds in thebox with it but it does not seem to eat that.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Hi Mike

its a very young, nestling/fledgling Spotted Dove.

Hand rearing a young bird is not easy.. So the best thing to do would be to see if the nest is up in the tree it fell from & if poss, try and put it back..

its parents should be around.. & they will look like this...

or.. keeping an eye on it, try setting it down beneath the tree to see if they approach it.

If you must keep it, the bird is a seed eater so good move with what you've already done.. It still may be at the stage where its not feeding itself though.

check this forum thread about someone who found themselves in a similar position to you (albeit with a different species, but the info is applicable)
