Im trying to obtain a passport for my son who was born in October this year. Ive had my birth certificate sent over which didn't arrive so Iv'e had it sent again but now I am running out of time and may have to apply when I get back to the UK. Finding someone to be the countersignature on section 8 was proving to be a problem anyway.

My Questions are these:

*Is it correct the only documents I would have to take back to the UK would be his Thai birth certificate and photos?

*Has anyone reading this found someone acceptable to be the countersignature? I've emailed the Embassy asking if the "Phu Yai Ban" (headman of my wifes village) is acceptable, but just got a reply that regurgitated what's already in the guidelines. The only other person I know is the Dr who delivered him at the Bangkok Pattaya Hospital, but I haven't known her for 2 years.

Thanks in Advance

I am Brit and when I applied for my son's Brit passport (he was less than 1 year old) I had my Brit mate, a long-time 'resident' engineer in Thailand (married with WP and job) to countersign.

Accepted.

I'm not sure, but are you returning to the UK alone, or will your son be coming with you?

If the latter, then if he doesn't have a British passport he will need a visa to enter the UK.

I will be traveling back alone
