Are Facilities Available For Special Education Of Thai Children?

Hi,

I have a friend who is 55 and used to be my housekeeper. She lives close to Chiang Rai, but would probably be willing to relocate if she could find a good school for the child in her care who is 13.

I know he had some testing at Siriraj hospital, and as far as she could communicate to me in her limited English, they described him as a slow learner, with a limited attention span, and is dyslexic.

The unfortunate thing is that he didn't start school until 3 years ago, and that's where he is - a 13 year old in the third grade, instead of the 8th. I think he takes one evening class, but I doubt it is a special ed class, or is tutored one-on-one.

Looking on ThaiVisa, no topics dealing with this are recent, some are 8 years old. Some "Special Education" courses are limited to the deaf, or blind, others are limited to Burmese refugees. I look up a promising Google lead, and it seems to say nothing. This kid is special, but he's not stupid. All-in-all, he's quite a pleasant young fellow.

I just hate to see him sitting with children 4-5 years his junior, and learning at their pace, when, he could have a problem, that with a little time and care, could certainly be partially, if not greatly overcome. One of the smartest adults I know is dyslexic - he scored 100% throughout college, because he had to take more care when learning, and bested everyone in the process. So, I know there can be hope.

There's not much more I can do than I've already done - look on Google, and ask questions here. If anyone has found out anything more encouraging, please let me know.

Thanks!

If you like you can have the person responsible for this referenced LD person email me and we'll see what we can come up with, with more details and inputs from the LD family members.

Cheers.
