I find the totally anti red shirt bias of most of commentators in this forum quite entertaining, they go to ludicrous lengths to rubbish any possibly good observations about their activities.

UDD supporters and leaders go to ludicrous lengths to hide their violent and/or law-breaking behavior, and if they can't hide it, deny responsibility, or come up with excuses to try to justify it.

I still remember a phone interview with Thaksin shortly after the breakup of the Ratchaprasong camp. Responding to a question about the burning of Central World, he tells the interviewer in a stern tone, "it was a set up". He would know, wouldn't he, from a distance of possibly thousands of kilometers away in another country.

How can anyone actually support the red shirts? Their only policy - bring back a deposed criminal to give us money to buy a new pig for the farm!! They bomb, kill and fire grenades to do this!! Impressed by the numbers are you? ONE MILLION turned up for Hitlers rally at Nuremberg in 1938 !! They were Nazis who went on to kill and murder too!! Bring back Shinawatra - let the good time corruption roll!!

Jatuporn is a party list MP elected based on the percentage of vote the PTP won in the December 2007 election...

So the party that voted him in ever vote him or is he likely to serve another term??? Is there any chance he will become just an everyday person in the near future. Wonder what his life would be like if he was not a member of Parliment.

Begin removed ...

I remember when yellow shirts shut down the airport no one was shot or jailed but when red shirts demonstrated shots were fired & red shirts went to jail.

... end removed

Not really comparable situations. The red-shirt protests tended to be more violent. Also between March - May 2010 we had 60+ grenade attacks in BKK, militants shooting at police/army. The yellow shirt protest was a kindergarten outing in comparision.

I live about 80 K from Udon Thani the road to my village is very bad we also do not have a land line phone connected to our village & no cable I had spoken to TOT & there reply was no phone line will be installed there reason was the people steal the wire for the copper I find that reply full of B/S the people of my village are mostly poor rice farmers who only harvest enough rice to live off & have a few cows which do not provide any thing including milk but if you speak to them they all love Thaksin I wonder why I don't know except my wife tell me Thaksin gave them hope & free medical care also small loans some used them wisely some bought mobil phones & motor bikes some wasted it on beer & cigarettes that there business not mine I also know not one of them went to the red shirt rally in BKK they were to busy trying to feed there family & to my knowledge none of there daughters are selling there bodies so why is my village singled out I am sure there are many like mine. my sister in law husband is working in Taipei & the dollar is weak compared to the baht so once again the poor get raped now you tell me Thailand is more productive than Taipei & I will call you idiot so who robbing who ? Let's not forget Thaksin bankrupted many hospitals with his 30bt medical care so he could buy them on the cheap.

He's in Dubai and guest of a "business partner" of high standing, but I still think he could be got at. Would be the best thing anyone could do for Thailand, double tapping that murderous, thieving bastard.

^^

Not true on at least one count...

TAK province every time had Dem MP's. Under Thaksin the province has been bled to death / Health stations, Hospitals, schools, hilltribe projects, biofarming projects, agricultural cooperatives, (Chuan Leek Pai was one of the initiators) has been suffering heavily.

Why? 20% of the population has limited civil rights, no vote for Thaksin possible.

In my village we have a special view of politics, many people are red and don't know yellows, vote Dem and hate Thaksin because he wants to take over the beloved One.

I think a special mixture like above is common in many rural poor provinces. No conclusion or fixed statement is actually possible.

...Nothing could be further from the truth...

Farther from the truth means liar ? does it ? I live next to the puai, baan, he is elected by the village but Not for life, your joking, and are you trying to tell me his boss who pays him cannot have him removed, 55555555. Now i,m telling you 500 baht was the going rate in my area. Mother in law got 500baht. I am telling you for sure people are afraid of authority, and are Not independently minded in general. Most thais are afraid if they dont conform. Ill judged stupidity. Who are you to speak know it all when you clearly dont. Money is given to get elected for 4 years to get huge amounts in corruption. Sorry I

,m not the stupid nut you think. to add I would not approach you and offer you money, you wouldn't be worth bribing

When I'm in the BTS at the wrong time I feel like a sardine in a can, squeezed. Still I never manage to count the total number of people present. It's a acquired skill to count people in a crowd. Having said that, I'm willing to accept 30,000 including protesters, watchers, police, shoppers, etc.

Regardless of turnout, politics & what the red shirts supposedly represent, it's pretty safe to say that Thailand is now heading for yet another miserable year.

I can see two opinions which don't completely match. not that that is really necessary with opinions ;)

Perhaps inadvertently you made an interesting comment, you called it the BROAD red movement...

no i meant 'broad' and yes there are many views - I say 'broad' because I wanted to highlight that's it's a cultural shift not just 'the reds' as many people view them dmonstrating in krung thep.

where are those silly posters who doubted even 10,000? they just can't help but tell lies to try to make the red demo look insignificant - looks HUGE to me and the Police say 30,000 others claim 50,000 - it's just the tip of the iceberg

It's not the tip of the iceberg. If that were the case only 10% of the total has been seen and mentioned till now. On the other hand it might explain the 1 million talked about last year. At some days 100,000 might have been visible ;)

Not very convincing I'm afraid...

The above statement holds true even more now that you should have had time to review my post(s) as I said nothing to the effect of what you are insinuating but did make clear that I thought their message was off base. If you comprehend what I wrote it is saying they need to stop having rallies and demanding to circumvent the law or policies but instead should make people understand what it is they feel they are lacking. As for defending somebody's i on another thread you again are again showing to me you do have comprehension problems or at best close your mind to things and/or people whose opinion you believe differs from yours..

It's not the tip of the iceberg...

Most red sympathisers I know don't go to demos - there is more support than you realise - I have only met a few yellows - one was Thai the rest opinionated farangs who think they know best.

10k, 30k or 100k ... they have done nothing to help their cause and in fact continue to hurt it because of their lack of communicating any kind of real grievances except demands to immediately disband the government and let their leaders out of jail. Nothing about education, nothing about infrastructural improvements in the urban.

Bottom line is they are losing support and not gaining with their tactics to date. They really need to think about what it is they need and want and get some leaders who will take actions to get them those things instead of having leaders that simply want to use their followers as tools for their own means.

let's see come the election

fair enough - nice to see you acknowledge that there WERE 30,000 - good job!

CMF --- your anecdotal evidence of more support simply is just that. Different social circles brings about different anecdotal evidence. (possibly making you an "opinionated farang who thinks he knows best")I could say the same anecdotaly .... Of the Thai people I know on a personal level not a single one is a red shirt sympathizer (when discussing leadership and tactics and Thaksin.) Many have sympathy for farmers and the rural poor but see the entire movement as totally tainted by its leadership.

Yes there were probably 30k at the rally at its high point ---- 50% LESS than predicted. but hey! That is a vast improvement on the 10% that showed up when they said there would be a million! (That Arisaman encouraged to all bring empty bottles to fill with petrol to burn BKK down!)

I can only say I quoted the title of this topic. I didn't acknowledge anything there. I already did that in

PS stricter limitations on quotes are a bit awkward, still have to find a good way to properly handle the new requirement.

I saw the Red Shirts setting up again in Chiang Mai so I immediately sold my business and can take no more. Due to this craziness that is allowed we had a miserable summer and most businesses here are down at least 30% and some up to 50%. The streets are already sparse of tourists due to a bad economy and with this combined it will sink this tourist season. It seems that, as usual, the cause and effect are not considered and it is only a selfish motive with no consideration of the peoples lives it will affect. Many others are considering the same. Not sure why this is being tolerated AGAIN.
