Former British MP Illsley pleads guilty to false accounting

LONDON (BNO NEWS) -- Former British Member of Parliament Eric Illsley on Tuesday pleaded guilty to false accounting at a London court, Scotland Yard said.

Illsley, 55, pleaded guilty to three counts of false accounting at the Southwark Crown Court in London. He admitted that, between May 2005 and April 2008, he made allowance claims for headings utilities, council tax, telephone and telecommunications, service/maintenance and repairs/insurance/security which were in excess of which was actually paid.

The former MP for Barnsley Central will be sentenced on a late date. "Given the number of outstanding trials and investigations relating to the MPs and Lords expenses, it would be inappropriate to comment further at this stage," Scotland Yard said, while adding that it welcomed the guilty plea.

Last week, former MP for Bury North David Chaytor was sentenced to 18 months in prison for expenses fraud. He had previously pleaded guilty to three charges relating to the false accounting of over £20,000 (approximately $31,105).

According to the BBC, Chaytor claimed rent for his own flat in London and rent for a house in Bury, which was owned by his mother. He falsely produced a tenancy agreement which said he was paying £1,175 (around $1,826) as a monthly rent.
