Right - Emabssy have sent my GF a letter at home asking her for additional documentation even though they complained about the amount of stuff I had supplied!

She is applying for a fiance visa and they have asked for the following info from her -

1) Her Bank statements

2) Information regarding land she may own

3) Letter from employer regarding employment status

I was under the impression that none of the above was really applicable for the visa we are applying for as the onus was on me to prove I could take care of her and not on how much money she may have in thailand, this info I assumed would be required for a visitors visa etc and that if she had 1million bhat and 50 rai of land in thailand has no bearing on whether I can support her in the UK without resorting to public funds :o ?

As far as her employment stuff is concerned she doesn't work anymore.

Have I screwed up and overlooked something here I thought I had done my homework on this one :D ??

I forgot they also said something about supplying emails. We never really send emails to each other as we talk on the phone daily (the last 6 months or so) and before we spoke 3 or 4 times a week.

I was thinking about contacting the embassy (or getting my gf to) and explaining / doing the following -

1) Her Bank Statements: Just give them the statements although she never really had more than 10K bhat in the bank at any time

2) Inform them she doesn't own any land

3) Tell them she is not in employment anymore

4) That we dont have any emails as we communicate via telephone

Would any of this be a problem? Or would I be shooting myself in the foot and making more problems for the application. Will any of this be a show stopper?

I must say it sounds as though they are processing an application for a visitor's visa rather than a fiancée visa. A phone call to the visa section to check is in order. Do you have a photocopy of the visa application and a record of the fee paid? The other possibility (remote, though) is that they are asking for such documentation relating to you.

I concur with Richard. It sounds just like a standard letter they send to every applicant and, perhaps, the clerk has ticked the wrong boxes. Give them a call and if they still want those documents, either provide them or explain in your covering letter why they are not available.

Well that sounds very positive - I never thought that it could have been a mistake from their end. I will get the ref number from my gf and give them a call. I assume they are open when it is a bank holiday in the uk? I guess it will say on the embassy website.

I will no doubt be back with more questions later.

I will post what they say in case this happens to anyone else in the future...

Cheers

OK overslept this morning so didn't phone the embassy. I got my gf to read me the letter as best she could (I didn't bother before) - appears that the letter was for an interview in december and has an extensive list of things that should be supplied i.e. bank statements, phone bills, etc etc - from the sounds of it - it looks like the standard letter they send out for the long interview.

Is this the case they just reiterate what is required? As I already gave them 99% of what was on the list so I hope this is just a standard format letter and not a specific request tailored to our application! :o as if they are asking for the whole lot then they must have lost the 2inch thick folder we gave them!

Can anyone tell me what they put on the long interview letters from past experience?

Yes, what your g/f would appear to be the standard letter sent to all interviewees.

Cheers,

Scouse - cheers - should have realised my gf had gone off the deep end over nowt!

Just wish the embassy had picked a better date for the interview - 22nd of Dec right before xmas and all is going to make air fares an absolute darling. But thats life I supposed.

Conversely, the visa officer may be looking forward to their Xmas holiday and be more generous in the giving of visas. :o
