I am confused on which visa, if any i need to go to thailand. i am arriving in Thailand on the 3rd of March 2011 from the USA. I will be leaving bangkok and going to Nepal on March 31. On April 15 i am flying back to bangkok. Then i am flying home to the USA on April 28th. I can see on this website that USA citizens can enter Thailand for 30 days without a visa, but i will be entering Thailand twice (both periods less than 30 days). So does this require me to apply for a multiple entry visa before i travel or will i be able to enter without a visa? Thanks for any help in advance :)

You will have no problems.

You will get a 30 day visa exempt stamp both times.

No need for visa for you as long as you carry a US passport.

Try Penang, but no guarantees it will be a double. It probably won't.

If you already had a tourist visa and an extension forget it.

Edit:

Cambodia and Laos are better options for a double entry tourist visa.

Make sure you have your flight ticket to Nepal already booked when you check in on 3rd March.

Without it you may not be allowed on the flight.

will do! im booking the nepal flight later this week. thanks for the info, i really appreciate it as this is my first time out of the country besides the caribbean

I'm going to try to piggyback onto this with my question if you don't mind . .

I'm coming back into the country next week and will be wanting to get a multiple entry permit for travel for next year . . can I get that at the airport after I get stamped in or do I need to go to my regular Immi office for it? I'm just looking to save me a trip to that office if I can

Thank you

Recent posts suggest that re-entry permits are avaialble at Swamppy airport.

Have not seen any report that would indicate that a re-entry permit can be obtained outside of the departure area of airport for those with boarding pass for exit of Thailand. Obtain at the office you obtained your extension of stay.

This would be for coming back into the country, not exiting

I come back in, I get stamped in, and now I would be looking to turn in the application for re-entry permit form TM-8 and my 3800 Bt and get everything taken care of while I am at Swampy

NO!!!

You apply for the re-entry permit before you leave Thailand. You cannot do it upon return to Thailand!!!

And the officer that provides such service is in the restricted international exit area and you must be departing the country to use the airport service AFAIK.

I see now the link that CharlieH edit in . . that clears it up and I see that it must be done when exiting

I wonder if that office at the airport is really open at 4 or 5 a.m. ??

Actually I won't need the permit until I leave the country again in March but I am coming back in next week and just wanted to save time & effort while I was at the airport

I think I am going to forget about trying to do anything next week (looks like I can't do anything anyway) and get the permit before I leave in March
