Indonesia man admits to raping nearly 100 children

JAKARTA, INDONESIA (BNO NEWS) -- A 33-year-old Indonesian toy salesman has confessed to raping 96 boys after local authorities arrested and questioned the man, local media reported on Friday.

Sartono, reportedly from Cirebon on Java Island, was arrested last Sunday as initial reports indicated that he had raped 39 boys. However, after questioning, Local Criminal Investigation Police Chief Reynold Hutagulung said that Sartono admitted to having raped 54 teenagers in the past two years and another 42 before 2008. The 96 victims were estimated to be between the ages of 14 and 17 years old, Kompas reported.

According to Sartono's confession, most of the victims were street children who lived near train stations in several cities such as Purwakarta, Cikampek, Bandung, and Kampoeng Bandan in North Jakarta. Without a permanent home, Sartono would entice children into accompanying him by saying he would buy them a cell phone.

Sartono's arrest came after the parents of a 14-year-old boy from Harapan Island in the Thousand Islands - located north of Jakarta - reported their child missing since mid-November. After approximately two weeks, the boy made it back to his home and claimed he had been kidnapped and raped.

According to the boy, who has been identified only by his initials, H.R., he was sodomized at least 18 times and sold to serve homosexual men for an amount between $2.50 and $6.

Even though Sartono has claimed not to have killed any of his victims, police are currently conducting an investigation to identify victims and gather further statements.

Meanwhile, another Indonesian serial child rapist who was previously identified as 30-year-old Mochammad Davis Suharto, is facing 15 years in prison for raping at least 15 girls between the ages of 9 and 12. Suharto, who strangled some of his victims until they became unconscious if they fought back, has claimed that magical whispers had ordered him to rape the girls.
