Hi. Most of you know I have posted here before and that I am diabetic.

I am still a little ill and don't want to go on long excursions around Bangkok etc. I stay in Rangsit and there are a few decent Pharmacies close by.

My question is, does anyone know what a decent Blood/Glucose monitor should cost? Also I remember back in Canada you could buy them cheap but it was the "Strips" that were expensive and the original monitor only came with 10 or 25 strips.

So also what is the most common brand to buy where I could buy the strips at a decent price after.

If You have any prices here in Thailand then I will have something to compare with and will go to the Pharmacy here.

I think that I need to start monitoring my sugars and get my Diabetese in order before anything now and maybe once I do I will start feeling healthy again. You can pm me or send me an email to

I seem to remember seeing different monitors maybe from 1300 baht up to 2500 ?

Sorry to head you're not feeling well.

As far as I can tell the most common is AccuChek. It's been a few years since I bought mine but I think it was around 3,000baht. Previously I had a OneTouch device and found the strips/lancets hard to find.

The AccuChek test strips (in packs of 25) are more interesting. If you go to Boots or the like they're 560 baht a packet. There's a chemist between Carrefour On Nut and Sukhumvit (in the stretch of shops under cover on the same side as Carrefour) in there the exact same (Proforma) packets are 400 baht. That's quite a saving if you test yourself multiple times a day (as I'm doing at the moment, trying to get my numbers down).

Good luck.

Thanks and good info. Yes My last one was the Accu-check also but I think the price is down now from 3000 baht (I'm sure hoping) I know the strips are more common too so I will probably go that route.

Thanks for the info on the Pharmacy near Carrefour/Onnut. That is a good savings really. For now I will not be making these trips from Rangsit as it's to much travel for me now but after I feel better then thats great news.

Anyone have recent info on the cost of the Monitors?

AccuChek Performa was free when I traded in the old meter about 15 months ago. However, I was forced to purchase 4 boxes of strips (25 strips per box) for the trade in. If you buy I think it should cost around 2400-2800THB. I can get AccuChek Performa strips for only 350THB (25 strips).

One Touch, you can do the trade in but I wouldn't recommend it. I used to own both One Touch Ultra and One Touch Ultra 2. Both of them suck, giving inflated results. I found out when I took both meters AccuChek and One Touch to the hospital while having a blood draw. And One Touch strips are more expensive, I used to pay around 450THB for 25 strips. Since I switched to AccuChek Performa, it has brought down the cost a lot.

Hope this helps!

I had a problem recently getting strips for my Accuchek Compact, when I checked their website I found out the monitor was discontinued they did however offer to replace it free so I called the UK number for international customers, gave them the serial number and they are sending a replacement monitor to my UK home address! Checking Fascino here in Pattaya the monitors ranged from 2500 baht upwards! So might be worth checking the Accuchek website in your home country.
