Colorado man sentenced to 20 years for sexually abusing his grandchildren

DENVER, COLORADO (BNO NEWS) -- A Colorado man was sentenced last week to 20 years in a federal prison for sexually abusing his minor grandchildren on a military base, prosecutors said Wednesday.

REB, age 63, of Fort Carson, Colorado, pleaded guilty on September 8, 2010 to sexually abusing his grandchildren, aged 3 and 5 years old, while their father had been deployed on military duty.

According to the plea agreement, between July and November 18, 2008, REB was visiting his family who resided on Fort Carson Army Base to help with the two young girls so his daughter could work.

However, on November 18, 2008, one of the young girls disclosed to her mother that REB was engaging in sexual conduct with her. The mother checked with the other daughter, and learned that she, too, was being abused.

The unnamed mother immediately called the police and it was determined during the investigation that the defendant did sexually abuse both girls. Due to their ages, both victims were incapable of appraising the nature of the conduct, or sexual acts, that REB engaged in.

REB was sentenced to 20 years in prison on January 13. Following his 20 years of incarceration, REB will then serve 10 years on supervised release. Beach, who appeared at the sentencing hearing in custody, was remanded and as part of his sentence, he will be required to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.
