DHAKA, BANGLADESH (BNO NEWS) -- India on Thursday reiterated its commitment to "zero death" along the border with Bangladesh, Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha news agency reported.

Indian home secretary GK Pillai said the death toll in frontier shootouts came down in 2010 compared to the previous years. "We do not feel comfortable with these deaths," the secretary said at a joint press conference with his Bangladesh counterpart Abdus Sobhan Shikdar in Dhaka.

According to human rights groups, the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) kills, on average, one Bangladeshi every four days.

Pillai also reiterated New Delhi's regret for the killing of a 15-year-old girl on January 7 and said a court of inquiry was underway to punish the perpetrators.

About 63 BSF's men were injured in combating the "criminal elements" in frontiers in 2010, Pillai added.

Bangladesh Home Secretary Abdus Sobhan Sikdar said all the border and security related issues were discussed in the meeting, including the printing of fake Indian currency notes, activities of extremists and terrorists, insurgency, trafficking of women and children, repatriation of prisoners, and border fencing.

During the meeting, Dhaka asked New Delhi to track down and return two of the convicted killers of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the founding leader of the country, as they are believed to be hiding in India.
