A friend (Italian national) has recently completed the second stay on a multiple entry tourist visa and successfully applied for a one month extension which takes her to 21 Feb. She now finds that she must remain in Bangkok until about 26 Feb, meaning a five day, or so, overstay. Two questions: is it better for her to pay the overstay fine upon departure on 26 Feb, or to do something at Chaeng Wattana in advance (if that is possible)?; and will this sort of overstay compromise her ability to obtain another tourist visa at a latter date?

thanks, RS

It has not been a factor in the past but it would be better to visit immigration with 1,900 baht and airline ticket on 21 February to obtain a 7 day extension of stay.

Thanks LB3 for the usual prompt response. Presume you mean air ticket dated 26 Feb (in this case?). Also, just so I am clear, is this really paying for a one-week overstay in advance, or is it a one-week extension (beyond the legal stay)? If the latter, then how many times can one reasonably be permitted to do this?

It is an application for extension of stay which is disapproved proving 7 days to leave. It is only available the one time and may require proof (air ticket) that you plan to leave within that period.
