Didn't want to post this in the visa section as some may overlook this thread, but.....

Following my thread on how Thai wives cope in their new falang country I pose a new question to fellow Aussies.

I have done a lot of homework about what is required to get my girl into OZ, but I would kindly like to hear from AUSTRALIANS who have been through the process (the REAL world!) of obtaining residency into OZ for their Thai GF's or wives, weather your application was successful or not.

To those that were successfull...can you give me a rundown on your experience? What was critical to have? What about the interview process? Loads of questions to ask so all your comments are welcome.

To those that were unfortunately unsuccessful......what happened? Why didn't they let her in?

I think that the key thing is to be able to demonstrate that you have a bona fide marriage or similar relationship that has existed for a reasonable period of time.

My wife came to Australia on a 12 month holiday visa, and we got married while she was here. Because it was the first marriage for each of us, and because we were able to demonstrate conclusively that it was and is a real marriage, that we live together etc, we have had no major problem getting her residency. However, there are a lot of hoops to jump through.

If you are currently in Thailand, you obviously need to approach the Australian Embassy. Before you do so, make sure that you can demonstrate that you live together, and have done so for a reasonable period of time, know a lot about each other's lives, families, etc etc. I understand that there is a long waiting time even to get an interview, so be prepared to be patient.

Unfortunately, there has been a lot of rorting of Australia's immigration system, and the innocent then pay the price. Good luck. If you are fair dinkum she will get in.
