Hi, a (simple I hope) question! Apologies if this has been answered elsewhere but I hope someone can provide clarification concerning the tourist visa and any advice from personal recent experience.

I am from the UK, first entered Thailand on 10 November and have since been here for roughly 40 days, traveling in and out and simply getting a 30 day stamp each time on entry and so have about 50 days before i hit the 90 / 180 day rule.

If I were to go to the Thai embassy in a neighbouring country can I obtain a new 60 day tourist visa or will I still be only allowed to stay in Thailand until the 90 days is up, even if issued with a tourist visa? Basically does the tourist visa wipe the slate clean or is it still part of the same 90 / 180 day rule.

Thanks for any help!

There is no 90/180 rule.

You should be able to get a Tourist Visa. They are free until March 31st.

Some local Thai Consulates are starting to get a bit more strict and may ask questions after a while but I would have though that 40 days would be ok.
