Any Cool High Elevation Places To Beat The Summer Heat In Los?

I'm looking for a cool getaway close to Thailand and can see that northern Burma has some [possible] high elevation destinations in the foothills of the Himalayas. Has any one been there/done that?/ Is it doable and somewhat tourist friendly??

And what is the current visa on arrival situation in Burma??

Looking at the map, there doesn't seem to be any cool high elevation places in Laos, but just asking anyway??

I just want a close break from the insane heat of this quickly approaching summer here in LOS.

Problem with Burma may be the possibility of armed struggle going on between hill tribes and central government? Not sure about Laos though.

Google Cameron Highlands, Frasers Hill or Genting Highlands (casino)...all in Malaysia and easy drive from KL.

Googled them and they do look cool, but seems like not too much to do for the single traveler.....unless you know some 'secrets' about these places.

I would say to go to North Laos near the Chinese border cold at night, good as the sun comes up been there last year when going by car you got really bad road conditions but nice landscape friendly people

Between Petchaboon and Pitsanulok is a resort town with a place called, I think, Little Switzerland. The area is beautiful and at a high altitude. Might be worth investigating.

Been there/done that on a long road trip and what I found were overpriced resorts with nothing to offer. The 'real little Switzerland of LOS' is actually Doi Angkhan and it is a cool place with beautiful gardens in the royal project....but again, been there/done that.

The north of Laos GDK.....give me some place names that I can google and maybe some details.

So is Phongsali, Laos, cool year round.

actually your suggestion sabaijai sounds good, but google tells me that it is a major ordeal to get there as well as the other northern Laos suggestions. 10 yrs ago, i would have been willing to make the treck, but now that I'm 10 yrs older, I like/need comforts and easy travel.

Maybe I should have been more specific in my OP.....

How about any easily accesible cool destinations near LOS at high elevations and with some basic amenities like internet and decent food??
