Playing badminton 2 weeks back I jumped for a shot and got a VERY sharp pain in my lower left buttock.

I have never had a problem before. The pain gradually lessened but playing again a couple of days ago I felt it go again.

The pain is quite severe .Sitting is a problem as is driving and sleeping.

The pain also goes into my upper leg.

Anyone any idea of cause or remedy ?

Thanks in advance for any response.

I believe I had a similar problem a few years ago. I went to doctor and ask for physcio he sent to a physciotherapist ( possible spelling error) It was a muscle problem that was fixed in 3 visits of 1 hour each. I have forgotten the name of the machine used sorry. I have had similar muscle problems in the back same machine used. The funny part about my story is I went to Bumrungrad 3 times at a cost of 4500 baht to 6500baht a visit each time they sent me to a hip specialist who couldnot find anything wrong had exrays everything, I felt it was muscle problem but was told I amnot a doctor my opinion doesnot count. So went to general partitioner in pitsanulok he had me in physcio that day> General partitioner costs 150 baht. Physcio 200 baht an hour.

My guess would be sciatic nerve damage. This nerve extends from the lower back and travels all the way down to the feet. The nerve passes through the hip and then along the back of both the thighs...A pinched sciatic nerve, often leads to left hip nerve pain....or a pain in the a** :D

google "sciatic nerve stretching exercises".

Very common problem and fairly easy to rectify. Also called Piriformis syndrome. The Piriformis muscle can get tight and impede the sciatic nerve. Most cases don't require any professional care. Just have to stretch and improve the muscle balance and postural alignment.

Thanks all

The video was most helpful...The pain is like that from a sciatica pain as I have had flashes of this pain in the past but only for a second or so.

I may have to go to the hospital but it is better to go with some idea of what is wrong.

I found the pain traveling into my upper thigh so I strapped up my upper thai yesrerday and spent the day in bed...That has improved things immensely.

I had similar sciatic pain, with the pain shooting down my leg. You will need to daily stretches and frankly, don't jump around on your leg for quite some time.

A few days rest and a strapped upper thigh and am on the mend.

Thanks guys, the info saved me from a probable expensive trip [or many] to the hospital.

Getting better daily.I can actually sit down in reasonable comfort today.
