BANGKOK, 10 February 2011 (NNT) – The majority of Thai youth do not deem the Valentine’s Day as a day to engage in sexual intercourse and lose their virginity, according to a recent survey by Assumption University Research Center (ABAC Poll).

The survey was conducted with 1,256 teenagers aged from 12 to 24 years old in Bangkok and vicinities. The aim of the research is to assess the attitude about sexual relations of Thai teenagers upon the upcoming Valentine’s Day on 14 February.

97.3% of the respondents said they know that 14 February is the Valentine’s Day while 2.7% do not. 60.5% of the respondents do not deem the Valentine’s Day a special day; however, other 39.5% thought that the day is special for them.

29.4% of the respondents indicated that they had sexual experiences with their partners before while other 70.6% said they are still virgins. 16.9% said they have a very high chance to have sex on the Valentine’s Day with their lovers while 70.4% thought that the chance is very slim.

Questioned if their friends were asked to have sex with their partners, 36.2% of the respondents said they will suggest their friends to keep their virginity and not to have sex before marriage. 34.8% deemed it acceptable to have sex but contraceptives such as condoms must be used.

18.0% of the respondents stated that it is a personal right to have sexual intercourse while 7.0% said they will encourage their friends to break up with their partners right away upon such a situation. The rest of 4.0% suggested other options to avoid engaging in sexual intercourses.

Another Nonesense poll..... & to think, its not even one of jingthing's, or is it? unsure.gif

Seems to be reasonable poll stats if you take into account the name of the university: "assumption". ;)

One can assume they believe that one can have a child and still be a virgin and be assumed into heaven. Makes sense to me.

Someone at AU is making assumptions with the definition of teen.

I wonder how many 12 year old teenagers took the poll?

The answers from the 20-24 year old teenagers could have also swayed the statistics.

A bit of well-intentioned education for the researchers at the Assumption University Research Centre:

13: thirteen

14: fourteen

.

.

18: eighteen

19: nineteen

"teenagers" = people thirTEEN to nineTEEN.

Get it?

Great! Now go do the poll again.

The Ass U have made this assumption so we should listen to the Ass U :whistling::lol::lol: as Valentine day in Thailand is very important and I never seen so much fuzz about it, lived in Lebanon, Sweden, The Netherlands but the Thais take the record about this day. Instead of spending money on this poll, they could educate the teenager 12-24!! about safe sex.

I o remember reading a study done by Maxim magazine on which country is was easiest to find a one night stand.... And of the 50 countries polled Thailand ranked dead last. According to the 1000 girls they asked, only 8% had ever had a one night stand.... Amusing to say the least...

The four percent pursuing other options. Do tell.

A computer, a bottle of baby oil, a box of tissues and ...removed... would be my own personal weapons of choice.

Assumption is a private university.

Private universities apply for and receive Government grants for public studies and this is certainly one of those Government propaganda studies the Government would consider and likely support...

That makes sense, it's easy with prostitutes, not so easy with everyone else.

Agree. That is my conclusion over time as well. There is a good size number (3 or 4 % active, but you could add on retirees,) of Thai (mostly Isaan} women who work, or have worked in the bad girl scene, so you could haggle 10% all up with a bit of movement either way a given.

Its that other 85 - 90% where you will find the ones who sure some are promiscous just the same as the falang, but you also find the thai gems who value their morals and especially around sexuality. What I found pleasing was that regardless that the anaylasis is heavyly flawed is a good number of thai teenagers are at least encouraging friends to hold to for the want of better...good old fashioned values.

Nonsense? heck this is a Univerity poll calling 12 and 24 years old teens! How could it be nonsense? I think we are just assuming assumption University is not assuming anything but rather, did the actual asumption poll, polling twelveteen year olds clear up to twentyfourteen year olds.

The Catholic Feast of Assumption has a double object: (1) the happy departure of Mary from this life; (2) the assumption of her body into heaven. It is the principal feast of the Blessed Virgin. Given the Roman Catholic Church's obsession with-virginity (which doesn't seem to apply to many of it's priests), we can safely deduce that this poll is totally unbiased then?

'The Fuzz' have been actioned in recent years to seek out adolescents indulging in the World's favourite sport. I have never seen any published figures on the effectiveness of such an exercise. My assumption is participants are 'fined' 200 baht if the male involved is not wearing a 'safety helmet'. :D

P.S. For those who do not possess a reasonable knowledge of English colloquialisms 'the fuzz' is an alternative name for the busies, the filth, coppers, Peelers or Plod.
