Question Of Work Permit(For Teacher)

Featured Replies

Hi there,

I am a teacher in Bangkok. my agent told me since I only have 3 hours per week work contract with them that they can't do me work permit.

I work in government school for 7 hours per week(the other 4 hours is substitute). Starting from this month, my agent ask me to take another 6 hours job of substitute but I don't want it! Then they told me if I don't take it I will have problem of too less hour to do work permit. I am wondering it's true or not?

All work requires a WP, and it is not dependent on hours. Your agent is unlikely to pay the fees and maybe does not have the necessary documentation, maybe not even registered. A lot of agents say they will get you a WP but do not, if caught working you are liable for 2 years detention or 100,000baht fine (the max has never been given, as far as I know).

Believe there is a minimum of 4 hours, but that might be an immigration rule and not from the labour department. (People on an ED-visa need to study at least 4 hours a week and volunteers need to at least volunteer 4 hours a week).

Any work, including volunteering, requires a work permit, which you don't have for the extra hours.

Maximum jail time is 5 year and/or a fine of 100,000. No, you won't get 5 years. But could be in a lot of trouble.
