Hi all!

I need some advice!! Quickly please!! :o

I have been based in Thailand for the last 12 months, initially with an Australian company until their Thai business was set up on July 1. I recieved my Non-Imm B in April 2005.

My question is this - I have been paying tax in Thailand since July 1st - on the basis of being employed by the Thai company. We were about to commence the process of applying for a work permit & a tax id but I have now taken the decision to return to Australia at the end of September.

- Should I still obtain the work permit & tax ID for the 3 months (Jul-Sep) I will have paid Thai tax?

- Should my employer actually be deducting tax?

- Do I have to pay tax when officially I have not been here for 180 days consecutively?

- Do I actually need to declare ANY tax in Thailand?

Prior to July 1st I was being paid out of Oz - including paying tax in Oz.

So many questions and so few answers... and so little time!! :D

Thank you all in advance.

For the period you were paid from Oz you should declare any income brought into Thailand for that year (Jan-Jan). Unless you have proof that you have already paid

the tax in Oz (I imagine there is a dual tax agreement between Thailand and Oz?).

As you are now paid in Thailand you should have a Tax id.

This is simple to obtain at the local tax office in the area where you work.

Normally your employer should deduct tax and make the payment on your behalf.

However as you are leaving, I should not be too worried about it all. :D

Astral - the OP indicated that she did not have a work permit yet - can she still simply go to the local tax office to get a tax ID?

Sounds easy!!
