Overland To Vientanne

Featured Replies

I have read conflicting stories on entering udon to vientanne by bus, you must have visa prior, If so can 1 be got in udon straight away?

Or can I please enjoy in nong khai 2/3 days then tu tuk to border visa ,then local laos songthow/minibus to capital. ( I prefer this 1)

any info appreciated.

Stay in Nong Khai, have fun, then when you're ready, tuk tuk to the border area and for baht 20, get on one of the vans there across the bridge to the Lao side. Queue up for the Visa On Arrival forms, two of them, pay in $$$ or baht, according to your nationality, grab a Lao tuk tuk and you're on your way into Vientiane. From downtown Nong Khai to downtown Vientiane, might take one hour or a tad more, tuk tuks ain't very fast.

Have you considered taking the train?

Nongkhai -> Thanaleng (just across the border), 15 minutes, has its own immigration posts at both sides.

Connects to the overnight Bangkok -> Nongkhai trains.
