For the last 9 months in Thailand I have shunned TV (television) as i have been concentrating on my projects and didn\'t need the distraction. however i am now at my limit, and need a TV fix.

Anyway, this has been brought about by my gf\'s dad who wants to give me one of their TVs that they don\'t use (they have many for some reason.) So I have accepted it, but don\'t particularly want to watch the trashy Thai channels. For one, i can\'t understand Thai yet, so won\'t understand a dam_n thing being said. So I want to get the best satellite package for farangs. I don\'t really need sports, as i get to watch premiership games and all the cricket on my PC as i have a fast connection here in Korat. Same with movies.. I likewise have access to all the latest movies via streaming.

What i do miss is the UK\'s Sky network.. in particular the documentary channels. I love discovery and History channels. is there a package out there where I can get a decent amount of English language documentaries? Also BBC World Service if possible.

I don\'t really mind the cost of the equipment or subscription, I believe that Australia is the direction I should be looking... Is there an Australian satellite footprint that falls on Thailand?

Much appreciate any recommendations.

Thanks in advance.

Seen any of those red Sat dishes around town? Those are for the TrueVisions Sat channels. Subscribe to the "Gold" package and you'll gt Discovery, NatGeo, History, and four movie channels. Plus a lot more. Plus, sorry to say, quite a few repeats on all channels. Oh, well, TiT!

There's also a lot on ThaiVisa.com/forum on the subject: http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/262334-ubctrue-vision/

Agree with the above, we have True Gold, probably the best fit for what you want. There are of course other options such as Astro from Malaysia but you need to be in or south of Bangkok to receive without a massive dish.

Is the TV an LCD or plasma? if so why not plug your PC into the VGA or HDMI input and watch all your favourite stuff on a big screen?

I'll move this to Technology, for better coverage.

Australian TV can be received with a 3.5 m dish from such suppliers as Jsat, see their web site.

ABC supply smart card free, but only needed for encrypted sports programs, all others are free to air, also has BBC World and a couple of other channels.
