SAN BERNARDINO, CALIFORNIA (BNO NEWS) -- A school bus on Monday crashed with a vehicle in the San Bernardino Mountains causing the death of at least 2 people and injuring 24 others in California state, KTLA news reported.

The accident took place just before noon local time on Highway 189 in San Bernardino County. Authorities said that the school bus collided with a vehicle from the local Fire Department.

After hitting the car, the bus crashed into a tree and knocked down a power pole. The bus slid odd the side the roadway down a snow covered embankment, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The school bus was carrying around 25 teenagers and some of them are currently trapped beneath the seats. Firefighters and rescue teams are on site as at least 24 people are reported to have suffered serious injuries.

The vehicle was driven by a local firefighter chief who was accompanied by his wife. Both individuals were rescued from the vehicle and transported along several others to local hospitals for further care.
