Security tightens at exclusive Bangkok girls school after knife attacks

BANGKOK: -- St. Joseph's Convent School is tightening security its security after a deranged woman entered the school last Friday and stabbed four pupils.

Agriculture and Cooperatives Minister Khunying Sudarat Keyuraphan, an advisor to the St. Joseph's Convent School alumni association, visited four wounded students now receiving treatment at BNH Hospital and later met with the school's administrators.

Khunying Sudarat later told journalists that security at the school would be tighter and that outsiders, including parents, will not be allowed to enter the school premises.

The students themselves will be escorted by teachers, Khunying Sudarat said. Parents will be asked to fill out forms to inform the school about persons assigned to collect their children.

Other security measures to be imposed, according to Khunying Sudarat, include installation or more closed-circuit TVs, the assignment of additional police at both corners of Convent Road and 20 male teachers will be given an added security assignment in their job description and be assigned near the school entrance.

St. Joseph Convent will take responsibility for medical expenses for all four students, she said. Two of the girls are still in critical condition.

Khunying Sudarat said she is relieved that police arrested a woman suspected of being the stalker who stabbed the pupils. She said she believed that a similar incident would not occur again.

On Saturday, police arrested 36-year-old woman identified as Jitrlada Tantiwanitchasuk who reportedly admitted to police that she attacked the four girls at the school.

The woman stabbed the girls and just walked out..caught a motorbike taxi and went and got a job in a restaurant.

The increased security is for show only..because the guards at the time didn't do a thing to stop her.

Just been watching this on Thai TV, it seems this woman has some serious mental issues, surrounded by reporters and police and she just sits there with a large grin on her face.
