Blender In Thailand

Featured Replies

Back home I used a food processor; looking for something to emulsify (pour in oil while blades are spinning) to make hummus, skordelia, pesto etc.

Haven't found a processor anywhere, at carrefour they only have blenders with an attachement. Has anyone used a cheap blender like that to this effect?

I'm sure I could find a cuisenart at paragon or something for an unusually large price, which I'm trying to avoid.

Thanks

Try Tesco Lotus, I picked mine up there three years ago for about 1200 baht and it is still kicking.

look out with the local brands for blenders if you want to make hoummous...either add water/lime juice to soften the process which I don't like or end up with a burned out motor...cheap, low powered western brands give the same result...

most of the time you haveta mash the chick peas/garbanzos to a smooth pulp before adding to the blender...even then you have to watch the blade rotation to make sure that the motor is not overloading...

use the pulse feature on the blender to get a handle on the process...

what is hoummous without arabic bread to eat it in? very possible but that's another story...:)

Personally, I think a food processor is a bit of overkill for making normal quantities of things like pesto or mayonnaise. Too much washing up, and too much waste. I find a hand blender does the job perfectly well - and one's a lot cheaper.

a helicopter pilot once told me that as long as it has a good rotor and a strong engine you cannot go wrong. B)

Check the major chain stores: Carrefour, Tesco Lotus, Makro, HomePro, BigC, Robinsons to see their selection. It is true that they have a ton of blenders, a fewer food processors but you may get lucky.

I think there's a "True Value" hardware store in Bangkok somewhere?

Maybe the main Villa Market store may have something, but that's unlikely.

I used the small attachment to blend up some quinoa and make flour. It sure beat the pounding in the bowl method. I have the sharp EM-ICE 400 watt. Going about 3 months of daily use. Best 1000 baht I spent.
