To Work In Thailand

Featured Replies

I am going to Thailand in June and looking to stay for a long while ..eventually i want to work or do volunteering, do i need to have a certain Visa for when i decide to and do i need it before i start or have to have an organisation before i do ?? I have read many things on the internet but gets a bit confusing and doesnt seem clear ..Be grateful if u help :) Rebecca

You need a Non Immigrant Visa and a Work Permit.

But you do not need them until you find out what you want to do. You can use a tourist visa to look around.

rrr great thanx , another question i probz want to do a visa run when my visa expires ,do i jus ask for a tourisst visa until i find work n then leave and re-enter the country as many times as i want?? ..thnks alot

Just bare in mind if you are travelling to Thailand WITHOUT a valid visa you will need to show onward travel within 30 days or they may not even let you board a plane to come here.

Suggestion: Get a valid tourist visa for 60 days and take it from there.............and remember even Volunteering NEEDS A WORK PERMIT.

May I ask what country you're from? When I used to go back to Canada I could apply there before returning to Thailand for a Non-B visa at the Thai consulate in Edmonton Alberta. This is not normal but the lady there said if I could show her a letter saying I had a chance of working in Thailand that shje would issue me the "B' visa. I got on my computer and copy pasted some job ads from a teachers website and wrote that this is what I will be doing when I reach Thailand. She gave me the 90 day non-B visa.

The first time I ever flew to Thailand 11 years ago I had read that Bangkok is the cheapest airport in the world to fly OUT of so I purchesed a one-way ticket also. When I went to check in on my flight day, BIG PROBLEMS. I had to purchase a return ticket right there and then.

If you can get a non-B visa before you leave that will help a potential employer apply for your Work Permit and makes you a more likely candidate for work.

Thailandbluegrass: Considering the OP's spelling, he won't have a chance of finding a job as a teacher. Seriously.

Lopburi3's advice to come on a toursist visa sounds like right on the spot.

Actually spelling would not be a requirement for all teaching employment and often a post to a forum is not much of a basis for judgment. This is a twitter world with SMS type language rather common I suspect.

Although I admit I did have the impressions poster Rebecca was likely a woman which would likely open pre-school options.
