8 Sas Captured

If the SAS were helping the pro-Gaddafi forces (and I hope they were not) this could get very embarrassing. :whistling:

I heard a BBC report where a man being interviewed said they were trying to make contact with the opposition....but he was very tight lipped!!!!

They are excellent soldiers, not Superman. By the way, the Easter Bunny and Santa Claus are not real either. ;)

There. only about 400 SAS personnel. I know about 5000. They are not supper human, they are Intelligent gatherers, some times its better to live and fight another day.

If the are there to support or help anyone involved in the conflict (and not just to evacuate some foreigners)it would be the wrong thing to do.

if they were there to make contact with the rebels then they aint going get involved in a firefight.

Correct, It takes more strength not to Engage than Engage, also they are now out of Labia and they where diplomatic agents. not SAS. or SBS

A strange story indeed. Yesterday these guys were reported to be escorting a diplomat and today there are reports they were looking for WMDs. We will likely never know the truth.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the US is now wavering on its position on Gadafi. This could be to get in step with the Israeli position to beef up Gadafi by hiring 50,000 African mercenaries to send to Gadifi's aid.

No it doesn't, you have no idea. Although pretty darn special, they're not infallible, but when your chopper puts you down in the wrong zone, it doesn't matter how brilliant you are.

I think you must be mistaken about the numbers. I think their are 10,000 in Pattaya alone, to go along with the 15,000 SEALS and 20,000 CIA operatives drinking in the bars there. :)

Strange is right. This rumor is being spread in the Iranian media and I can find no legit sources that even mention it.

You are probably correct as nothing about it really makes that much sense. We will know soon enough should the US do an about face in its position on Gaddafi and Libya. It was the logic in the WSJ article that gave it some plausibility.

Let's not forget that Libya is a sovereign country. Yes - it's a dictatorship but then so are scores of others nations scattered around the globe.

Funny how there was no US intervention - military wise - in Rwanda - Darfur and East Timor to name but a few - in the past where there were incidences of abuses on the civilian population.

But then again - none of the aforementioned countries were oil rich nations.

.

We (oz) went in to east timor. We sometimes do things for the good of the people of other countries, not what we can get out of it (sometimes). It took a hell of a long time for our govt to finally commit though.

Update:

Benghazi, Libya (CNN) -- A group of British special forces who were briefly detained by the opposition in eastern Libya have left the country, along with a diplomat, sources told CNN Sunday.

In a statement, British Foreign Secretary William Hague described the group, and their release, in more vague terms.
