gotlost
I may go by Kelly's in the next day or two. I have not been in the restaurant since it was Prats which btw I thought was OK. My only knock with Kelly's location is Meechock Plaza Parking can SUCK.. By all accounts It looks as if the F&C market is down to Kelly's the Pun Pun and Geckos. Yep, Gecko's great value, but I haven't tried Pun Pun's F&C.....I will. I need to go incognito, because I don't want the 10% discount. Ulysses G.
A Thai person should not have any problem with the fried fish. It is the English chips that I wonder about. Most Westerners around here do not get them right.
wimpy
Burp... Paid a visit to Yunee's. Food seemed about like I remember from when it was Charlie's. Good. She is the same cook, and appears to be using the same dory fillets. I thought the chips were tasty. Maybe not the place to go if you are in a hurry. She takes her time. Raindancer
Too bad he does not have a place downtown It sure does, this place is crying out for someone who does really good Fish and Chips, but as been indicated earlier specialist restaurants in town struggle. However, if Kelly's is as good as people are saying, it might be wise to take self and family out there when the F&C fancy comes along. After all we don't eat it every day, so going out there once in a while isn't too bad. Your comment of "we don't eat it every day" is why specialty restaurants do not last in Chiang Mai. To survive you have to offer more than a gold fish. Absolutely and that leaves us with very little choice unfortunately. Give it a try...Kelly's doe not just rely on F&C... He seems to be astute enough to offer a variety of choices and specials including his lasagna, shepherds pie and other assorted menus. His burgers are succulent and his panini s are too die for. He always has something different on his "specials menu" including his latest venture to provide for his customers , spicy beef Goulash with a choice of side dishes. Quality, quality, quality and indeed value for money for the customer.

Gonzo the Face
Here is a pic of a Pun Pun F&C. Now if someone can post one of Mr. Kelly's F & C ,maybe we can start off the 2011 version of a F&C long running thread.

I'd like to know how she does them. Fish was OK nothing more than ok. I'd say all in all probably the best in town.

Did someone say it's owned by an American? I guess American just don't get the concept of fish and chips any more than the Thais do. For a start Chips are not a side dish for the fish. It's Fish AND Chips also it's eaten with salt and vinegar not tartar sauce.

Take away the slice of lemon and that could be a good Greasy Spoon in the UK with that table cloth, vinegar and ketchup in the picture. Does she also do an All Day Full English? (My mate says if it doesn't include 'All Day' in the description it isn't right !!) Looks very tempting.

Coming from south of Watford, I'm not into mushy peas, but for those that like them it's a great addition. The chips look just as they should be and you're right Pun Pun serves potato wedges, not chips........but the fish portion there looks huge. These two seem to be the leaders of the pack, though Gecko Garden on it's special days is the best value for money.

Bubbalicious
Kelly's is good. I think it was 130 bt for 3 pieces (110 bt for 2 if you're not so hungry). Some nice and affordable looking things on the menu other than fish and chips too (pizza, sandwiches, and breakfast things as well). Mae Choke Plaza is the official name of the market (where the Rimping is). You can see the locations of the Rimpings on rimping dot com. The open air market down the street is Dalat Ruam Chok (to match the intersection name). I'd be remiss in not mentioning the Vietnamese place next to Kelly's is great as well. Really good Vietnamese egg rolls (fried ones). I get a couple of orders of them to go whenever I have to bring something for pot luck. They go quick! alexpoker
Went to Gekko Garden last night. It's a nice place to have a meal. Not too expensive either. Had the fish and chips for 120 baht. Obv nothing like fish and chips back in the UK but still nice. Tartar sauce was a little thin due to be it being outta a bottle tho. Still a nice place to have a meal. Beer isnt too expensive either.
