Check your stats - 19 deaths per day is well below average. In 2003, there were 13,116 road deaths reported to police. Only 19 should be cause for celebration rather than criticism and head scratching.

A quick Google reveals some sources that quote ~13,000 as the annual death toll for Thailand.

19 road deaths in one city in one day is alot. For it to be buried deep in a story that's about the wreckage of a storm is a gross mistake or a callous disregard for life. I'd say it's the most important part of the storm wreckage story.

I want to laugh. In fact, I did, even though my laughing is rather crass, in light of the fact that 19 people did die. But that was funny.
