Cannot understand, please can someone help advise please...

I have been with True since the house was built 7 years ago, always been fine on the whole, and now-a-day even better, always around 6 MB unlimited 599 baht per month, connected to my home PC + laptop + 2x Dreambox..

Have been with Hutch [2 phones, 2 different number] for about 4 years...

This morning got a letter from Hutch, stating can now pay at True + many offers for True/Hutch...

I have just phoned them, there offer is to cancel the 6 MB True internet connection and use instead UN-limited 3 G internet FREE.

Not having any idea about 3G, as thought is was for Mobile Phone/Laptop Internet ? [Laptop is used in the South for about a week every month and Hutch 3G will not work down there]

3G can be used on a home PC ? will my Dreamboxes still work ? Is it any good ? is it worth changing ?

Edit: Forgot there is just a one off set up fee of 1,400 baht

Interesting.

Sounds like you are using True ADSL for your internet service provider.

In the past CAT and Hutch were providing CDMA service on CAT's 850Mhz band to provide internet service to locations were there was no ADSL available. True had some 3G locations throughout the country also using the 850Mhz band.

Recently, True and CAT made some kind of deal where True would take over 80% of the 850Mhz band to provide 3G services. In turn CAT would do away with the CDMA service (which I assume would include Hutch).

I believe the mazimum throughput for 3G on the 850Mhz band is about 7.2 Mbs. I think CAT's CDMA on the 850Mhz and is about 3.1 Mbs and Hutch's is even slower. Of course the speeds will get worse as the band gets more use.

The 'hard wired' ADSL is far better than any of the wireless solutions. So why change?

So you'd get free Internet? I strongly doubt it, nothing is free.
