Heathrow Airport terminal re-opens after suspicious package declared safe

2011-03-10 21:17:00 GMT+7 (ICT)

LONDON (BNO NEWS) -- British police have cleared a suspicious package that was found at London's Heathrow Airport on Thursday afternoon, officials said.

A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police said officers were called to a suspicious package in Terminal 5 on early Thursday afternoon, prompting a small evacuation. The package was later declared safe and police were talking with a man about the incident. "We're just having a chat with him. He's not been arrested," a spokesman said, denying media reports that said he had been arrested.

Earlier, Sky News reported that police were in an armed stand-off with a man threatening to blow himself up, but police later denied this. "It's not as exciting as Sky News would have you believe," the Metropolitan Police said. "There is no armed stand-off."
