Hello All,

I'm in Chiang Mai with a full passport that was recently soaked in alcohol from a spilled beer. I keep getting warned by the authorities to get a new passport, so i will be taking there advice. I plan to heading to the UK (Canada is home) soon and don't want to pay a ton for a flight and have them not let me board.

Any tips to speed up the process?

Where to get a declaration of Guarantor?

I don't have my birth certificate will that be an issue?

Is the embassy close to central?

Canadian embassy

151 Super Highway,

Tambon Tahsala

Amphur Muang,

Chiang Mai 50000

Thanks!

Why not e-mail or call the Canadian Embassy and ask these questions?

I know that passports get frayed with use, especially if you don't have a decent passport cover, but I don't think a beer would do so much damage that it is unusable as your passport.

I think you need to get advice from your Consulate and unfortunately it is not close to Central.

Take Mahidol road that runs past Airport Plaza until you get to the super highway, crossing over to get onto the southbound lane.

Stay on the frontage road, your Consulate should be up a small Soi about 100m past the Nissan show room. If you get onto the highway you have gone too far.

I would recommend you to contact the Consular Section of the Embassy in BKK.

15th Floor, Abdulrahim Place

990 Rama IV Road

Bangrak, Bangkok 10500

Telephone: +66 (0) 2636-0540

Fax: +66 (0) 2636-0566

Email: [email protected]

and to check these websites:

http://www.voyage.gc.ca/faq/passports_passeports-eng.asp and http://www.pptc.gc.ca/cdn/section4.aspx?lang=eng&region=international

Your passport can be replaced in Bangkok. It generally takes some 2 to 3 weeks...

You will see that you will NEED to provide a proof of Canadian citizenship (either a birth certificate or a Certificate of citizenship if you were born in Canada or a Certificate of Canadian citizenship, a Certificate of Naturalization in Canada, a Certificate of Retention of Canadian citizenship or a Certificate of Registration of Birth Abroad if you were born outside Canada).

As far as Guarantor(s) are concerned, if you have none locally, a special form is available to replace "him or them" by friends or acquaintances that can certify you are Canadian.

Is this not covered by the existing passport? If it's full, not due to expire surely all this information is still on file?

I could very well be wrong with this as I've never been in this situation.

As I said, just a general question.

Thanks

Well, the two I had replaced here, so far, were not full but were about to expire.

On both cases, I had to submit my birth certifcate.

And that special form replacing the Guarantor(s)...

That's the reason I suggested you to contact the Embassy directly.
