US Bound Condoms From Ansell's Thai Factory to be Tested

MELBOURNE, Sept 16 Asia Pulse - The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has decided that all condoms from Ansell's (ASX:ANN) manufacturing facility in Thailand bound for the US market must undergo testing after some shipments failed quality tests.

Gloves and condoms maker Ansell sad the two lots of condoms that failed to meet FDA standards were tested within the last seven weeks.

The Surat Thani plant, from whence they came, has consequently been placed in "Level 2 detention", which is a level of required inspection.

For the plant to be released from detention, at least 10 successive incoming shipments will have to pass FDA testing before release into the US market.

Ansell said condom sales in the US represented a "mid-single-digit" part of the company's total sales.

Ansell shares were 10 cents lower at $10.80 at 1500 AEST today.
