I have a few Dollar bills of various denominations and I have had them for quite a few years for emergencies and they are quite old and worn out, having been folded in my wallet for years. They are old issues......not the new hi tech notes. Will banks or money changers take them at full value?? or where can I exchange them for thb or new issue $$ before the dollar becomes obsolete??

thanks in advance.....

Not here, they want only clean notes and being old issue too it is even less likely.. Have anyone back home you can send them to and have them exchanged at a stateside bank?

That's a last resort, because of the expense and risk of sending cash thru the mail, but may have to resort to it. The banks in the US are obligated to accept old notes still??

I am pretty sure any age usd note is valid, forever! If the serial number can still be read and the note is intact, then just the fact that it is worn, it is illegal to refuse acceptance in the states, but in Thailand who knows.

Find someone going to the us and sell it to them.

Twice, I have bought old US bills from tourists near exchange booths on Sukhumvit who had the same problem. They stopped me and asked what they could do.

What about just going into a bar and having a few drinks, chatting with the staff, having a bit of fun and then posting the notes on the wall with all the other tatty bank notes from round the world. Quite a few bars to choose from.

So civilized indeed a smart idea.
