Has anyone renewed a british passport at the embassy in BKK recently? how easy was it & how long did it take?

Passports are not renewed at embassy, but have to be renewed via hong kong. lots of threads on here to find out more

As said you now have to apply in Hong Kong. Apply by post/courier.

Any idea what the time frame is?

I renewed my passport recently via the British Embassy in Phnom Penh , they told me it would take up to 1 month , it was back in 2 weeks with an allowance for time still remaining , they also gave me e rebate on the cost of $14.00 .

I think its about 2 to 4 weeks

And this system does not have long to run.

A British Hon Consul in Thailand told me 2 weeks ago that the HK 'facility' ends some time next month. Then all applications must go to UK.

With higher fees, I suppose.........?!

I recently sent my application to Hong Kong to renew my passport. I sent the paperwork by EMS(400 bht) and 1 week later it was returned by EMS. I had a problem with my application form and I was emailed by one of the staff and the application was rectified . My passport was then sent back to me. Excellent service but the fees for a new passport are daylight robbery compared to the prices paid if you apply in the UK. The other issue I have is that when you apply for a 48 page passport , I expected to get a passport with 48 usable pages for stamping / visa's but infact you dont get that as the first page usable is page 4, the first 3 pages are info. Then at the back of the passport you have 2 pages of info again and then the main photo page and chip on the other side. Therefore you only get 41 pages to use for the stamps / visa's. Again this is outright robbery and misleading you into thinking you are paying to get 48 pages , just another CON.
