Last week i contacted the cencus enquiries number as i had a question regarding an unoccupied house i own that’s up for sale and wanted to know how to complete the form in those circumstances.

During the call i was told how to complete the form but was also told that had i not completed the form the cencus enforcers would have made enquiries as to who lived at the address and their whereabouts with the neighbours.

Pledge to crackdown on census dodgers

The enforcers are authorised to conduct interviews under caution and have been given powers to gather evidence against individuals and householders who use the address but decline to complete the national survey, said a spokesman for the Office for National Statistics (ONS).

Anyone who refuses or fails to take part will face criminal prosecution and a fine of up to £1,000.
