I am going to Hong Kong for 4 nights.

Anyone have any recommendations for sightseeing or visits.

I am thinking of a day trip to Macau or Shenzen - anybody have any personal experiences of either ?

i went to Disneyland Hong Kong

really enjoyed it

the fireworks at the end of the day were amongst the best i have ever seen

i also went to Macau, stayed at the Venetian Casino

You won't need a Chinese visa for HK or Macau but if you want to visit Shenzen or other cities you will . If you are going over during the week a trip out to Mui Wo and then the Big Buddha is worth the ferry fair and you will avoid the crowds . Lantau Island has loads of walking trails with awsome views .There is a watering hole in Mui Wo called The China Bear for a pint waiting on the Ferry back to town . A trip on the cable car up to the Peak and the Star Ferry are all centeral . A walk right down to the very end of temple street market of the evening . There is bars 24 hours in Wanchai .

Do you know how long do British & Thai nationals get for Visa on Arrival? I think Thai's get the whole ASEAN free passage don't they?

bubbles - I found this about a visa for Shenzen:-

Once you have exited Hong Kong you will need to get your visa. The visa's are issued upstairs, it is a biggish area but keep following the crowds and you will see an escalator going up. Once upstairs you need to fill in the visa application and take a ticket from the ticket machine and wait for your number. If you are doing this at the weekend or over a holiday this can mean a long wait! The visa must be paid for in Rimimbi(Chinese currency). Fortunately there is a currency exchange outside the visa room to facilitate this. For the majority of people a visa will cost RMB 160. However if you are a UK passport holder the price is RMB 469.

Great recommendations. Also, try the escalator up the mid-levels. Great views and some interesting small restaurants along the way. I could spend a day just walking around Kowloon. Tsim Sha Tsui promenade, Nathan Road, Temple Street night market...great stuff. Out a bit is Sik Sik Yuen Wong Tai Sin Temple. Really neat place.

Try a boat tour of the harbor. You can get a boat somewhere near Wan Chai. Can't remember the exact harbor, but just walk along there and you will find them...I could, and have, spent a full day just walking around Wan Chai and the surrounding areas. Can't remember the name, but the oldest temple is on the island. Pretty neat to see and the walk there is interesting.

Though totally touristy, the Stanley Market is interesting...and the bus ride is beautiful. Have lunch at one of the places on the bay.

IMHO, Macau was a disappointment. But I am from Vegas. The tables are packed and even have gamblers on upper levels who lower bets down to the tables! Though we did win about $500!!! I haven't been there since some of the newer casinos opened. My last visit was about 6 years ago...unfortunately!

The trip out to the big buddha is great. If it's a clear day, the views are great and the ferry ride is neat...hydrofoil.

If you want an (expensive) drink with a great view, try the roof top bar at the Mandarin Oriental...if it is still there. Lan Kwai Fong, if I am not mistaken, is where lots of foreigners hang out. HK is not a cheap place, but they have some good happy hours here...so it helps. Lots of bars there and great people watching...the small road is packed with people after dark.

I took the train out to the last stop before a visa was required. Walked around, but it was just a chinese city...not that interesting. I think in 4 days you could just cruise around Kowloon and the island and have plenty to do...and be beat from all the walking! Great time to go as it won't be too hot...Have a blast!!!!!!! This is making me want to head back there....

My recommendation of a day trip... you can cover a lot of places in a single day...

1. take train to Tung Chung (from anywhere you stay) on Tung Chung Line... walk to Cable Car Station (abt 1 Hr)
2. Take Cable Car to Giant Buddha ( abt 1 Hr)
3. See Buddha and take photos
4. Take Bus down to Mui Wo Ferry Pier (abt 30-45 mins).
5. Do whatever other guys advised to do in Mui Wo
6. Take Ferry from Mui Wo to Central Ferry (abt 1 Hr)
7. Walk to Peak Tram Shuttle Bus (abt 10 mins)
8. Take Bus to Peak Tram (abt 20-30 mins)
9. Take Peak Tram to Peak (abt 30 mins)
10. Enjoy Peak.. and walk around the Trail (about 2 hrs)
11. Come back by Bus to Central Star Ferry again (about 1 Hr).. Bus Ride is nice too
12. If you stay in Tsim Sha Tsui... take Star Ferry to Tsim Sha Tsui.. and see the entertainment lights (I think 8:00pm).

You can do 1 to 6 easily on 1 day... or you can push it up to 1 to 10 (in 1 day)
