MickeyC
Does anyone have experience getting a single entry Non O from the Thai consulate in Savanaket, Laos? Do they require any documents aside from the usual - marriage certificate, copy of wife's ID? What's the cost of the Lao visa at the border? What's the cost of the Non O? Is Savanaket easy to get to from BKK? any interesting stops on the way? And what about Savanaket and the surrounding area? Worth a look? Sorry about all the questions but any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Khutan
I did mine in Vientiane. I didn't know there was a consulate there. I paid the hotel in Nong Khai for the VIP service, and had the Non-O done in 4 hours, and I didn't have to go to the consulate, just sat around the market sipping Latte's and went for a lunch at the beach. I can recomment the VIP service if you are in a big hurry, which I was.

Khutan
I can't remember the name of the hotel. I do remember you turn left up a side street off the main road in Nong Khai to get there. It is a low building and the main feature is an open air bar at the front. And you go up a very slight hill, there is a car-park at the back and a restaurant / massage centre on the other side of the road. Maybe someone from Nong-Khai will know the place. Its front bar is open 24x7 Anway, they have a big Tour section. If you go there and tell them you need a Non-O in a hurry and you have your wife, then it can be done. From memory it cost me 14,000, that included everything including the driver, all visa's etc. Oh yes, when yu get to Laos, I found the best exchange rates were at the bank near the market, I got 256 Lao Kip for 1 Thai Baht, so you can walk around like a millionaire for a day. Also tell your Thai wife, the Thai-price at the market is the same as the Farang price, because she is a farang, no matter how well she speaks it, they seem to spot it a mile off. Good luck. Just buy the ferry ticket in Mukdahan, go across and when you go thru the ferry terminal you will see the signs for the visa. Very easily done. drummer
I need to get a non-Imm "b" ASAP, and Penang has holidays. How friendly is Savannakhet to non-Imm Bs, what are the associated charges, and does Lao have holidays this week? Thanks!
